is a film shot on April 4, 2020. It is a direct response to the terrible American management of the pandemic, particularly to the miss of duty by Donald Trump – now leaving more than 100,000 dead, and more than a million people infected. The United States is now at the top of the list of infections and deaths, and all of this could have been avoided if more rapid and appropriate action had been taken.

Thus, this film impressionistically documents a locked-out society, without instructions from the authorities, with scientists unable to speak for fear of reprisals from the government, and citizens divided into two groups : those who take precautions against COVID-19 (wearing masks, social distancing, washing hands) and those who persist in large public gatherings and put everyone in danger.

As of this writing, the exact number of casualties is unknown, but the number of infections is increasing. Several American states are no longer under quarantine, against the advice of scientists.

est un film tourné le 4 avril 2020. C’est une réponse directe à la terrible gestion américaine de la pandémie, en particulier à l’oubli de devoir de Donald Trump – laissant désormais plus de 100 000 morts, et plus d’un million de personnes infectées. Les États-Unis sont désormais en tête de la liste en matière d’infections et de décès, et tout cela aurait pu être évité si des mesures plus rapides et adaptées avaient été prises. 

Ainsi, ce film documente de manière impressionniste une société en lock-out, sans instructions des autorités, avec des scientifiques incapables de parler par crainte de représailles de la part du gouvernement, et des citoyens divisés en deux groupes : ceux qui prennent des précautions contre le COVID-19 (porter des masques, distanciation sociale, se laver les mains) et ceux qui persistent dans les grands rassemblements publics et mettent tout le monde en danger. 

Au moment où j’écris ces lignes, le nombre de victimes exact est inconnu, mais le nombre d’infections augmente. Plusieurs États américains ne sont plus sous quarantaine, contre l’avis et l’appel des scientifiques.

■ Wheeler Winston Dixon est enseignant (Professeur Emérite d’études cinématographiques à l’Université du Nebraska), cinéaste, auteur de plus de trente livres et de plus d’une centaine d’articles. 

En tant que cinéaste et vidéaste, les œuvres de Dixon ont été projetées au Whitney Museum of American Art, Anthology Film Archives, The Museum of Modern Art, The BWA Contemporary Art Gallery, The Microscope Gallery, The British Film Institute, Studio 44, OT301, The Amos Eno Gallery, The Oberhausen Film Festival […] et dans de nombreuses universités et sociétés cinématographiques à travers le monde. 

En 2003, Dixon a été honoré d’une rétrospective de ses films au Museum of Modern Art, et ses films ont été acquis pour la collection permanente du MoMA, en format imprimé et original. 

Depuis 2015, Dixon travaille dans la vidéo HD. En 2019, son nouveau travail vidéo – plus de 500 vidéos au total – a été intégré à l’UCLA Film Archive à Los Angeles. 

■ Wheeler Winston Dixon is a teacher (Professor Emeritus of Cinematographic Studies at the University of Nebraska), filmmaker, author of more than thirty books and more than one hundred articles.

As a filmmaker and videographer, Dixon’s works have been screened at the Whitney Museum of American Art, Anthology Film Archives, The Museum of Modern Art, The BWA Contemporary Art Gallery, The Microscope Gallery, The British Film Institute, Studio 44, OT301 , The Amos Eno Gallery, The Oberhausen Film Festival […] and in many universities and film companies around the world.

In 2003, Dixon was honored with a retrospective of his films at the Museum of Modern Art, and his films were acquired for the permanent collection of MoMA, in print and original format.

Since 2015, Dixon has been working in HD video. In 2019, his new video work – more than 500 videos in total – was integrated into the UCLA Film Archive in Los Angeles.
